Comcast Xfinity® TV subscribers across the US can now access Urban Movie Channel, which is an SVOD service owned by RLJ Entertainment, for an additional cost of $4.99 a month as per reports. This reportedly marks the first time an SVOD service has been unveiled on the set-top boxes of a multichannel video programming distributor.

Featuring programming aimed at urban and African-American audiences, Urban Movie Channel is also accessible through Xfinity Stream® application and portal aside from the Xfinity® On Demand section. The residential customers with the X1 platform can use its voice remote capabilities and command “Urban Movie Channel” to pull it up, or they can find the same inside Xfinity® On Demand section.

“We are thrilled to be able to bring Urban Movie Channel to Xfinity® on Demand,” said the President of RLJ Entertainment’s SVOD Service, Traci Otey Blunt. “UMC offers an array of feature films, original series, drama, comedy, documentaries, and more. We’re excited to offer even more customers the ability to watch UMC’s quality urban content at their leisure.”

“Comcast® is committed to showcasing a breadth and depth of content that leans into unique stories of black identity and culture,” said Comcast Cable’s Executive Director of Multicultural Consumer Services, Keesha Boyd. “Launching Urban Movie Channel on Xfinity® TV expands our library of culturally curated and relevant offerings for our customers to enjoy.”

The popular and new programming available on Urban Movie Channel, which Comcast® subscribers can watch on Xfinity® On Demand, comprises different titles. Two of such UMC originals include “The Rich and The Ruthless”, which is an Emmy Award-nominated series of comedy genre, and the Grammy award winning series “5th Ward”. Other than these TV series, the subscription video service on Xfinity® On Demand also features rom-com movies such as “No Regrets”, drama films such as “The Fix” and “Switching Lanes”, and many more.

Apart from that, the subscribers of one of the best cable TV providers can watch a collection of stage plays on Xfinity® On Demand. In fact, this is one of the best cable deals or tie-ups, which residential subscribers of Comcast® can make the most of by paying an additional cost. Recently, the cable giant also entered a distribution tie-up with RLJ Entertainment’s other SVOD service, Acorn TV,  which could mean they are gearing up for more.
