Infinera and CenturyLink® supplied software, equipment and services in order to support terabit-scale connectivity at SC18 conference for a fast temporary network. The companies, alongside other contributors from academia, government and industry, are providing SCinet with multi-terabit capacity. SCinet is the high-capacity network supporting innovative applications and some of the well-advanced supercomputing tests at the conference. The bandwidth, anticipated to be over 4 Tbps, will connect Dallas’s Convention Center named Kay Bailey Hutchison with WANs in many cities, comprising Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami, Sunnyvale, Seattle, and Washington DC, demonstrating the rapid provisioning of CenturyLink’s 100 gigabit services.

As per Andrew Dugan, CenturyLink’s Chief Technology Officer, “A scalable, agile and low-latency infrastructure plays a critical role in addressing the demanding and ever-increasing connectivity requirements of high-performance computing and the global research and education community. We are pleased to work closely with Infinera to deliver terabit-scale capacity for SCinet, underscoring our commitment to serving the needs of these customers.”

The SCinet of this year leverages Infinera’s XT-3600 platform, which is powered by Infinite Capacity Engine, and CenturyLink’s core optical transport network, to deliver super-channel based terabit capacity to Dallas’s conference venue. During the conference, both companies are using XT Series platform and Xceed Multi-layer SDN Platform of Infinera to demo an SDN solution that features real-time telemetry performance monitoring data stream to automatically detect and respond to network problems with network policies that are predefined.
