Stopping Prorating Bills Could Change Dynamics of Telecom Services

Fastest Internet Provider
Telecommunication Services

Presently, AT&T® gives prorated credits to customers for the remaining days in their bill period. However, starting January 14, 2019, the Dallas-based telecommunications company will no longer prorate some customer bills if they cancel one of its many services prior to the bill period. The good thing is that they will still be able to keep their service through the invoice cycle’s end.

The new company policy affects people who cancel service from AT&T’s DIRECTV®, phone, U-VERSE® TV, fixed wireless internet, and internet. Note that it does not affect AT&T® Wireless service, or cell phone, or even the streaming TV service DIRECTV NOW®.

The fastest internet provider gave out a statement that details its policy in a clear manner:

“We bill in advance for DIRECTV®, U-VERSE® TV, AT&T® Phone, AT&T® Internet, and Fixed Wireless Internet accounts per our service agreements. Currently, if you cancel any of these services, we give you prorated credits for the remaining days in your bill period. Starting January 14, 2019, if you disconnect these services before the bill period is over, we won’t offer those prorated credits anymore. But, you can still use your services until the last day of your bill period. We’re making this change so our video and broadband services follow the same billing policies as our mobility services.”

Best Internet Provider
High Speed Internet

This serves as a heads up to customers of the best internet provider who are looking to cancel any of these services in order to switch to others. Below are some other details, which you would want to know about the policy. To be fair, the Telco giant is being unambiguous about all these things.

  • It does not actually affect all services or accounts in Illinois, California, and New York.
  • In case you are in Michigan, it does not affect AT&T® Phone, U-VERSE® TV, or internet accounts.
  • In case you are downgrading or upgrading features or services, you are in the clear.
  • In case you switch amid DIRECTV® and U-VERSE® TV, DSL and AT&T® Internet, or even landline and AT&T® Phone, the policy is not applicable to you and you can switch.
  • It does not apply to you in case you change your present account to a different location. A charge as well as corresponding credit may still apply though.
  • It does not apply to you in case you have DIRECTV® service for business (Commercial).
