Homelife Automation Launch

Cox Communications® recently introduced a home automation solution named Cox® Homelife. The cable provider said that it would include automation into Cox® Homelife to upgrade smart home offerings given to customers. With the advent of smartphones and IoT systems, more subscribers are adopting a way of living known as “connected home”.

It refers to keeping all devices connected to a LAN or wireless network at home. Cox® Homelife automation would offer subscribers of the fastest internet provider advanced features to stay connected to the network and control smart devices. Cox® Homelife did a test of home automation services, excluding home security solutions, last year in select markets including Tulsa. The growing interest of subscribers in the services is making Cox® to launch Homelife automation nationwide this year.

“We see two markets forming, a well-established and growing home security market and an emerging market who aspires to smart home living but who may not want 24/7 monitored security. Offering more choices in the Cox® Homelife portfolio enables us to expand our reach beyond the homes that are buying home security today and establishes an umbrella for future expansion into every home,” said the SVP and GM of Cox® Homelife, Kristine Faulkner. “The idea of a smart home can be daunting. Consumers want the ease of a professional installation, education about how to integrate and use smart home devices for worry-free living, and ongoing support they don’t get with other one-off products.”

Note that Cox® Homelife will offer ‘Automation’ and ‘Security & Automation’ solutions separately to customers going forward. Homelife offers Cox® subscribers advanced features that define smart home lifestyle, which comprises of:

  • Indoor and outdoor high-definition cameras with options to monitor the home and record motion-triggered videos
  • Options to send custom notifications to an integrated smartphone or a mobile device; this feature would let customers know when their children reach home or if a thief is trying to break-in
  • The option to remotely control smart lights, smart thermostats, and advanced door locks from compatible devices

While Cox® Homelife Automation vows to provide subscribers of the cable giant a platform to stay connected with their near and dear ones and control smart home devices, customers can get peace of mind with round the clock monitored security as well if they choose to combine both.
