Comcast Business® Spends Big on Network Expansions in Harrisburg

Comcast Business® recently invested $1.7 million as part of a fiber network expansion in Harrisburg. The subsidiary of Comcast® plans to reach over six hundred more businesses and benefit more customers by making accessing the network even easier than what it used to. By expanding the fiber optic network that is capable of deploying 100 Gbps Ethernet, the Comcast® subsidiary aims to serve small, medium and large-scale organizations in Harrisburg.

While the fiber optic network of Comcast Business® is serving several large-scale firms and businesses in Harrisburg, the new network that spans over twenty seven miles in and near downtown is capable of bringing high-speed internet and voice services to more customers.

“This is a significant infrastructure investment by Comcast Business® and we’re proud to bring our advanced network deeper into Harrisburg to help the economic growth of the city and region,” said Toni Murphy, the Regional VP of Comcast Business®. “As demand for our high-performance Ethernet offerings continues to soar, Comcast Business® recognizes the need to respond quickly and provide scalable solutions that can meet demand as businesses grow.”

The Comcast® subsidiary continues to leverage business by winning more customers in Central Pennsylvania, joining hands with the best internet provider CenturyLink® on a contract with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The five-year contract with the Commonwealth is to provide data networking solutions to state agencies, councils, bureaus, etc. For instance, Comcast Business® has built a fiber optic network that connects the data center of Pennsylvania State University with its health center.

The network expansions of Comcast Business® in Harrisburg city stretch fiber both underground and aerial. The Comcast® subsidiary has finished the expansions in Chambersburg and downtown Pittsburgh, while the one in Jefferson County is nearing completion. “This is an exciting development for the City of Harrisburg and will bring significant benefits to downtown businesses,” said Eric Papenfuse, the Mayor of Harrisburg. “The expansion of the fiber optic Ethernet network will make Harrisburg even more attractive to businesses and help fuel our economic renaissance.”
