Comcast® and Chicago Cubs Enter a Multi-Year Pact

Fastest Internet Provider
Exclusive Wi-Fi Partner

Major League Baseball’s Chicago Cubs recently announced that they have signed a multi-year partnership with Comcast®. As per the marketing and technology tie-up, the fastest internet provider will deploy Wi-Fi, voice, and video services at their home stadium and the surrounding properties of the baseball team, comprising their front office situated at 1101 W. Waveland Avenue. This pact also makes Xfinity® Mobile the exclusive Wi-Fi partner of Chicago Cubs.

“First-class fans and an iconic ballpark like Wrigley Field absolutely deserve first-class technology,” said Chicago Cubs’ Sr. VP of Sales and Marketing, Colin Faulkner. “By partnering with Comcast®, we’ll be able to deliver exciting new best-in-class media and technology experiences for every fan who comes into the ballpark and every visitor who enjoys our surrounding attractions for years to come. The new technology Comcast® combined with all the amenities and attractions we’ve added will make the fan experience a home run.”

Comcast Business® will provide best internet, voice, and video services for Chicago Cubs’ office complex and will offer support with respect to game day functions. Comcast® also plans to deploy in-game video solutions, comprising feeds of live games and associated content across the stadium and Park at Wrigley.

In-Game Video Solutions

“Robust internet access, faster Wi-Fi and exclusive video content are just the beginning,” said Regional SVP of Comcast®, John Crowley. “Not only do we get to design and build the network that will let every Cubs fan and visitor more easily do the things they already love to do, like share pictures and videos, post on social media and stream audio and video, but eventually it’ll support a whole range of next-gen technology applications that are still on the horizon. That’s exciting.”

What is also exciting for local fans is that Chicago Cubs is set to take on Pittsburgh Pirates on April 9, which will kick-off a home stand featuring other baseball teams playing against Cubs. Comcast® has already installed a fiber network, which will improve capacity and speed in Wrigley Field and its surrounding properties compared to previously available systems. The new dual-circuit network with a 10-gigabit capacity will be adequate to help fans access internet via wireless access points on game days in future. The fans can access Wi-Fi for free in and around the ballpark using the Service Set Identifier ‘XfinityWiFi@Wrigley’. Reports say that Comcast® will build more access points over the course of the MLB season.
