Xfinity®, which is a trade name of Comcast Communications®, conducted an annual binge fest recently, in which it broke all the existing viewing records. In the Watchathon Week, the customers watched their favorite shows and movies for approximately 105 million hours. The number hiked especially during the annual week of the Watchathon fest.

In the VOD binge fest that the company conducted last year, Netflix content was incorporated by Comcast® for the first time. During then, the customers tuned in and watched their favorite shows for approximately 77 hours of the binge fare.

The Xfinity® Watchathon of Comcast® took place from April 16 to 22. This was the sixth annual Watchathon of Comcast® that mainly focused the VOD and is aimed to drive interest in their customers to watch TV series rather than the season premiers alone. The Xfinity® Watchathon of this year employed more than 50 networks, access to the original series of Netflix, as well as subscription Video On Demand services such as Acorn TV, Dog TV, and Curiosity stream. In addition to this, two latest commercial-free services, FX+ and AMC Premier, were also included in this version.

There is another hottest addition as well in the Watchathon week of this year, a subset of programming. It included the Game of Thrones that is featured in HBO to the internet-only customers of Comcast® who use Xfinity Stream® app. The Vice President of video and entertainment at Comcast Cable®, Daniel Spinosa said, “We love bringing Xfinity® Watchathon Week to our customers each year and surprising them with new and unexpected content. This year, we’re really turning up the dial by offering X1 customers a unique opportunity to sample and explore the best programming from dozens of traditional networks and studios, streaming services, and emerging SVODs – all aggregated together on the biggest screen in the home.”

He further added, “But we also didn’t want to leave Xfinity® Internet customers out of the fun. So, for the first time, we’re inviting them to experience Watchathon Week commitment-free by downloading the Xfinity Stream® app or going to the Xfinity Stream® portal to get access to a selection of Watchathon Week movies and TV shows on their devices all week long.”

Comcast® officials said that Xfinity® has achieved a record during the binge-fest week when compared to other stats; there was an average of 14 downloads per minute, which is 20% more than the week prior to it.
