Xfinity® Mobile Service

Early on this year, Comcast® rolled out Xfinity® xFi, a platform which provides a digital dashboard for the subscribers to configure their home Wi-Fi network, find the password, see which devices are being connected, troubleshoot connectivity errs, configure parental controls, and even pause the Wi-Fi access on their home network. Now, Comcast® subscribers in and around Staunton, Waynesboro, and Augusta would get accesses to one of the fastest internet service available in the US.

As per a press release from the Telco, the residential subscribers of Xfinity® Mobile would get 4G LTE speeds of up to 1 Gbps. Comcast® names their 1 Gigabyte service simply as “By the Gig”. Reports say that they recently finished the rollout of Xfinity® Mobile in most of the service areas in the US.

Xfinity® Mobile makes use of the 4G LTE network of Verizon® for connecting to their 18 million Wi-Fi hotspots nationwide. The Telco’s new service areas would also make use of DOCSIS 3.1 technology to deploy fast internet speeds over the present communication lines.

“That means we can reach more homes with gigabit speeds in a way that allows us to connect entire communities, not just select areas,” said Eliza Frindlay, ‎the PR Manager of Comcast® Beltway. “Previously, we offered select internet tier speeds ranging from 10 Mbps to 400 Mbps for area customers, so this new 1 Gigabit service will allow customers to receive more than double the speeds currently available.”

The “By the Gig” service is priced at $104.95 per month, and does not require a term contract. In addition, a promo price of $79.99 per month for a year is also being offered by Comcast® to both new and existing subscribers. However, the existing of Xfinity® broadband users would need to install a new DOCSIS 3.1 cable modem to get the fastest internet service.

“With the launch of our 1 Gigabit residential service, adding to the best in-home Wi-Fi experience and our recent launch of Xfinity® xFi, we continue to deliver an unparalleled Internet experience for our customers in terms of speed, control, and reliability,” said Mary McLaughlin, senior VP of Comcast® Beltway Region. “We know consumers need an internet provider that can deliver speed, and we have been on a pace of doubling our network capacity every 18 to 24 months, ensuring that we stay well ahead of demand.”
