Charter® Negotiates with Sony Pictures Television for LA’s Finest

Reports indicate that the executives of Charter® are negotiating with Sony Pictures Television to pick up the studio’s television pilot titled La’s Finest, which is based on the Bad Boys duology starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. This news has surfaced after NBC network has backed out of broadcasting the spinoff based on the popular action movies, and Sony Pictures Television took it out of its network.

That is why the fastest internet provider is negotiating with the studio for La’s Finest, which may get co-produced by Charter® and one of its cable networks based on how things unfold. A deal between the two seems likely, although the representatives of Sony and the cable giant have refused to comment on the matter. However, reports say that LA’s Finest might be used to kick off Charter’s strategy to unveil original video content on Spectrum® cable.

Earlier this year, the Telco giant hinted that it is going to make originally scripted series a part of its cable by signing up deals with Viacom® and AMC Networks™ to co-produce the same. Recently, Charter® hired Katherine Pope as its Senior Vice President and Head of Original Content, as part of the company’s efforts to introduce original programming.

As per reports, Charter® might just revive LA’s Finest if all things go as planned by co-producing it with AMC Networks™, and air the episodes of the series on Spectrum® cable. The action-packed Bad Boys spinoff was billed as one of the costly television pilots with a budget of about $12 million. It centers its plot on the DEA agent, Syd Burnett, the character that was originally played by Gabrielle Union in the Bad Boys sequel and reprised the role in LA’s Finest.

The TV show’s co-writers include Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis and director is Anton Cropper. It also stars Hollywood star Jessica Alba as a working mother, Nancy McKenna, who cannot help but envy the freedom Special Agent Syd Burnett has in an action-packed world.

This was the first season of LA’s Finest, which Sony Pictures TV tried to negotiate with NBC for a multiple-series package but they could not. Instead of NBC, it is likely that Charter® might save the series featuring A-list stars if they succeed to negotiate a deal with Sony Pictures TV.
